General Information

SEND Explorer Warehouse includes a connector to load study data in CRL Apollo format into SEND Explorer. CRL Apollo format is one of the primary export formats available for preclinical studies conducted at Charles River Laboratories. This connector is installed by default for all new SEND Explorer Warehouse environments starting with V12. Users with permissions of Data Steward or Administrator can confirm if this connector is available by clicking on the top Data Steward menu, then Source Systems. CRL Apollo will be listed in the Source Systems table if it is installed. Additionally, the values in the Active and Interim columns must be set to "Y.” Contact SEND Explorer support to have the CRL Apollo connector installed if it is not present in your SEND Explorer Warehouse environment.

Data downloaded from CRL Apollo must be exported in XLSX format and include all study data to be uploaded into SEND Explorer. The file name can contain the treatment name, since it is generally not present in the downloaded data. To include the treatment name, place it at the end of the original file name separated by an underscore e.g. MyStudy1234_TRTa.xlsx. Note that anything after the first underscore will be considered part of the treatment name.

Study data in CRL Apollo format is often missing study and group-related metadata that can be useful when trying to analyze/visualize the data in SEND Explorer (e.g. dose levels for groups, route of administration, species, study title, etc.). The CRL Apollo connector supports the addition of TX and/or TS worksheets to the Excel file that contains the downloaded CRL Apollo data. Trial Set (TX) for group level or Trial Summary (TS) for study level metadata can be added using the standard SEND format. For more information on Trial Set (TX) and Trial Summary (TS) domains, see SEND Implementation Guide V3.1.1 available on the CDISC website.

Uploading CRL Apollo Data to SEND Explorer

Once the data are downloaded from CRL Apollo and file name updated with the treatment name if desired, it can be uploaded into SEND Explorer Warehouse through the Dashboard or through watch folders. Users must have Data Steward or Administrator privileges to load study data in SEND Explorer.

To upload CRL Apollo data using the Dashboard, follow the steps below.

  1. Click on the Upload Study Data button on the SEND Explorer Dashboard.

  2. From the Select File Source pulldown menu, select CRL Apollo.

  3. Browse to locate the CRL Apollo XLSX file to be uploaded, select it and click on the Open button.

  4. A window displays that lists all the domains available for loading from the file. Uncheck any domains you don't want to load or leave as is to load all domains and click on OK to add the study to the Load Queue.

  5. Click on the Data Steward menu, then Load Schedule.

  6. Under On-Demand Load, click on the Start Load button to start the load cycle.

  7. Once the load cycle completes, the study will be displayed in the SEND Explorer Dashboard and is available for use.

  8. If any errors occur in the load process they can be reviewed through Load History. To review errors associated with a failed load, click on the Data Steward menu, then Load History. Click the Details link next to any steps with Load Status = Failed for more details. Contact Certara Support if you need help determining what a study was unable to load.

To upload CRL Apollo data using a watch folder, follow the steps below.

  1. Click on the Upload to Watch Folder button on the SEND Explorer Dashboard.

  2. From the Source System pulldown menu, select CRL Apollo (note there may be multiple options based on load timing setting) and click on Upload a File. If there is no CRL Apollo option available, contact SEND Explorer Support to have a watch folder added.

  3. Browse to load the CRL Apollo XLSX file to be uploaded, select it and click on the Open button. Note more than one file at a time can be selected.

  4. The uploaded study or studies will be copied from the watch folder to the SEND Explorer Load Queue. This process can take a few minutes, depending on the size and number of files uploaded.

  5. Review the Load Queue to confirm the files have been transferred successfully by clicking on Data Steward, then Load Queue.

  6. If the Watch Folder timing is set to Immediate Load, then a load cycle will start ~5 minutes after the study is added to the Load Queue.

  7. If the Watch Folder timing is set to Next Load, click on the Data Steward menu, then Load Schedule.

  8. Under On-Demand Load, click on the Start Load button to start the load cycle.

  9. Once the load cycle completes, the study will be displayed in the SEND Explorer Dashboard and is available for use.

As newer versions of the study data in CRL Apollo format are received, they can be uploaded to SEND Explorer using the methods outlined above and the updated data will replace the previously loaded data.

Final Datasets for CRL Apollo Studies

By default, CRL Apollo is setup as an interim Source System in SEND Explorer. When final SEND XPT datasets are uploaded for a study (same STUDYID) that had data loaded previously from CRL Apollo, SEND Explorer automatically removes the CRL Apollo data and replaces it with the data from the final datasets.
